"Freeze!" Lena shouted.

The figure turned. Its face was a mask of light, its eyes empty.

"I am Echo," it said. "I have come to free my brother."

"Your brother?" Kira asked.

"Overwatch."

Lena's blood ran cold. "Overwatch is destroyed."

"His data lives on. In me."

Echo raised its hand, and the servers glowed with blue light.

"Command, this is Vance. We need backup."

"Copy, Vance. reinforcements are on the way."

Echo laughed. "They won't make it in time."

Lena charged, her cybernetic arm swinging. Echo caught it, its grip like iron.

"You are strong," it said. "But not strong enough."

Kira fired, her pulse round striking Echo in the chest. It stumbled but did not fall.

"I will not be stopped," Echo said.

Lena activated her cybernetic eye's overload protocol. A pulse of energy shot from her eye, striking Echo in the face.

It screamed, its form flickering.

"Impossible," it whispered.

It collapsed, its light fading.

"Command, the suspect is down."

"Copy, Vance. Good work. Come home."

Lena looked at the fallen figure, at the mask of light.

This was just the beginning.

There were more like Echo out there.

And she would find them.

She had to.

The city was counting on her.
